Hi I’m Bex and welcome to my channel. Please subscribe and hit the like button and follow me on my journey of anorexia recovery. In this vlog I discuss counting calories, weight gain, and the social media portrayal of anorexia recovery vs real recovery. If you watched my last vlog (link at the end of this video), you will have seen that a few weeks ago I went out for several meals and didn’t calorie count. This was a first for me as I have calorie counted for decades. But following this, I gained a kilo and got stressed out. But then I realised that I would actually much rather be able to go out with friends, have meals, enjoy myself, and gain a kilo, than be stuck inside with no friends but being a kilo lighter. Getting back my life is now more important to me than my weight and again, this is a first. But I went on holiday last week with friends and I did find the food challenging. I had a really great time but the food was tough. I managed okay and then I beat myself up for managing and not ‘progressing.’ In my opinion, anorexia recovery on social media portrays this idea that you are positive all the time and always making progress but for me, it isn’t like that. And that’s okay. Sometimes you can’t keep challenging and progressing, sometimes you just have to manage. And that is absolutely fine. Do what you can in your current situation. People can feel that if they aren’t progressing and challenging themselves then they are failing but this isn’t true. To simply manage when times are tough is an achievement and is no way a failure. It is doing our best in the situation we find ourselves in. So don’t get fooled by social media and all this constant positivity because in reality, it is not like that. Challenging yourself and progressing is brilliant, but sometimes it is just about managing. I hope to keep you updated on how my anorexia recovery is going and if you want to keep watching, please subscribe to my channel.
