Today I'm making the tequila sunrise...twice! These are two very different cocktails that share the same name. Originally created by Gene Sulit in the late 1930s/early 1940s, the tequila sunrise had crème de cassis and was topped with soda water. It wasn't for another 30 years that we see the orange juice and grenadine concoction we've come to associate with the tequila sunrise today. Now I don't claim to be an expert on this cocktail, but I love comparisons. So getting as close to the original recipes as possible (that includes using store bought grenadine instead of homemade), we'll decide which tequila sunrise comes out on top! Cheers!
