I decided to have discussion with my GenZ subscribers. I wanted to understand my audience – hoping to produce better content and gain a different perspective. Also as a parent, I found it useful to know the things I need to watchout for. How to master emotional intelligence by Sheikh Mikaeel Ahmed Smith • How to master your Emotional Intelligence ... What do we get wrong about Gen Z: common misconceptions a. Our problems are not significant – you can handle it: This leads to suicides. It has nothing to do with the nature of the problem. What matters is that we need to be there for them. My generation grew up in the middle of a war, so we think their problems are insignificant. This is a wrong mentality to have. Remember the game ‘tag’ or run and catchers? Children go to a tree which is the base – to keep them safe from the catches. Just like that ‘base’, everyone has a base – a person that they feel safe around. Someone they can trust and be honest with. For a child – their parents are the base. b. Focus only on studies – no time for other things: adventures, fun activities. Education provides social mobility – take for example my family. My grandma didn’t finish school. Her daughter went for a PhD. This gave us the impression that if I send my kids for more classes then that will take care of the rest of their problems. However, a child’s life needs to have more than that. c. Why did you make such a decision (Assuming it’s a wrong decision)? Causing self-doubt in the person. This can happen to me with my children as well. So as a parent I decided this is what I will do: i. Is it Halaal? ii. What is your intention? My advice for GenZ: 1. Hard to stick to one job. Always looking for the perfect, dream job. Don’t do this. It looks bad on your CV. Those who hire you think you are unreliable. If you think you are being abused or mistreated, then quit. 2. Want to make money fast. Be careful of scammers. If you want to make money, focus on creating value first. Money will follow after that. I have nothing against you doing a regular job. 3. GenZ think they are more matured than their parents due to the Tech advancements they have. Knowledge does not equate to experience. Sometimes you have to try things in order to learn them. 4. Overdosed with information – hard to make a decision. Take a break from your phone and enjoy the small things in life. Looking at a sunset, staring at a tree.
