ACES has developed a range of redox active electrolytes for converting low-grade waste heat directly into electricity. Thermoelectrochemical cells (thermocells) incorporating these electrolytes are ideally suited for supplying continuous power for low voltage applications such as remote sensors, small wearable electronics or supporting the internet of things. Thermocells can be flexible, allowing them to be wrapped around hot pipes, and ultimately facilitating their low-cost manufacturing by reel-to-reel printing. The materials and devices can be tailored to the application and all electrolytes can be gelled to prevent leakage.
