Stollberg liegt am Nordrand des Erzgebirges, rund 20 Kilometer südwestlich von Chemnitz. Highlights in der in einem Tal liegenden Stadt sind der Marktplatz, die Jacobikirche, die kleine Marienkirche und der Stadtpark am Carl-von-Bach-Gymnasium. Über der Stadt thront die Burg Hoheneck, die schon zu Zeiten der Monarchie ein Gefängnis war und nur nach Anmeldung besichtigt werden kann.
