Lyrics: Just a small town girl – living in a Roman world She took a late-night trip out of Nazareth Just a bitty boy – born to make the world rejoice He took a late-night trip out of Nazareth The king is in an OK mood – until the wise men bring no news For a while they can spare their lives If they run, and run, and run, and run Mary, Joseph, leaving town to save the child Their shadows, hidden in the night Saved by, an angel Heaven sends a warning, Joseph Hide Him somewhere near the Nile Well, King Herod, he ain't quite thrilled "Every baby boy must be killed!" He'll do anything – he's cold as ice – what's one more crime? Run from Him – One with you's The Son of God, the King of the Jews For His kingdom never ends It goes on and on and on and on Mary, Joseph, leaving town to save the child Their shadows, hidden in the night Saved by, an angel Heaven sends a warning, Joseph Hide Him somewhere near the Nile Don't stop till Egypt – fleeing from King Herod Saved by, an angel, oh oh oh Don't stop till Egypt – fleeing, yeah Saved by, an angel, oh oh oh Don't stop till Egypt – fleeing from King Herod Saved by, an angel, oh oh oh Don't stop Credit to Apologetix for their original parody version of Don’t Stop Believin’. Theirs is great, but I wanted to create a version of the song that is more Biblically accurate in accordance with the Biblical narrative in Matthew chapter 2 and aligns better with Truth known from Luke 2:39. Whether the Magi visited Jesus in Nazareth or Bethlehem is something most Christians don't consider. Regardless, based on the timing of the purification rites for Mary and then the family's return to Nazareth afterwards, it makes sense that they fled from Nazareth, whether this is where the magi visit occurred or not. We don't know how long it took Herod to realize he was outwitted by the Magi, only that based on the information from the Magi that Jesus was two years old or younger. I think that fleeing from Nazareth makes the most sense, however it is also possible that they fled from Jerusalem or Bethlehem if the family was staying with relatives (or others) in that area while they were there for a festival such as the Passover (Luke 2:41). Either way, the point of this song is to examine the remaining circumstances surrounding Jesus's family fleeing to Egypt, no matter where they fled from (Apologetix uses Bethlehem in their song, so I used Nazareth in mine). Both are possible, so there is not much sense in taking a hard stance either way. Enjoy! I do not own the instrumental. And yes, this was all recorded in one take!
