Motorway project with total length of 156 km and consists of two separate sections. Section 1, the 13 km Bregana-Jankomir motorway, is a four-lane link from the capital city Zagreb to the border of Croatia and Slovenia, and was opened to circulation in December 2000. The other section, the 143 km Bosiljevo-Sveti Rok motorway, linking central Croatia to the Dalmatian Coast, opened in July 2004. The motorway is considered vitally important as it provides the principal link between the Zagreb region in central Croatia and the Dalmatian coast. With this motorway, Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is now integrated with Europe’s central and western highway network. Project started in April 1998 and completed 14 months ahead of schedule, with 4,000 workers employed at the peak of the construction. The $600 million, fixed-price contract is one of the largest ever awarded by the government of Croatia at the time. The project is being designed by the Civil Engineering Institute of Croatia, which is acting as the government's engineer for the job.
