In this video I'll walk you through the steps to get your AD environment setup on AWS. In addition I'll demonstrate seamless AD join using EC2. Prerequisites: AWS Account VPC setup with two subnets (can create subnets during setup) IAM role to allow for seamless domain join (included in video steps) Steps: Creating Directory Services Find Directory Services in your region and choose Set up Directory "AWS Managed Microsoft AD" Choose Standard Edition (Enterprise would be for production allowing for multi Region) Directory DNS name = (ex. TechHelp.local) NetBIOS name = (ex. TechHelp) Admin password = Choose VPC and two subnets or create new subnets Choose Create Directory Select newly created Directory Enable User and Group Management (hit refresh button twice) Create a test user Setup seamless domain join Create IAM role that includes AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore and AmazonSSMDirectoryServiceAccess policies Create instance in same region Under Advanced details choose Domain join directory Choose IAM role Launch Instance Use Admin login (change domain name) Add Group Policy and User/Group features Add Features Group Policy Management Remote Server Administration Tools AD DS Tools Create/modify users to test For those of you who are wanting to migrate your on-prem AD to AWS one option is to use ADMT (Active Directory Directory Migration Tool). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...
