A song composed by Ryoichi Hattori with lyrics by Yaso Saijo. It was first sung by Li Xianglan (Yoshiko Yamaguchi) in Japanese in a 1940 film in which she played the leading role. The recorded version was published in the same year with the rendition of female vocalist Hamako Watanabe and male vocalist Noboru Kirishima. A Chinese version was also released in 1943 with the rendition of Chinese female vocalist Bai Hong. (Note that it consists only of two choruses, while the Japanese one consists of three choruses.) With its elegant melody and slow rhythm, the song expresses a romance between a man and a woman that unfolds in the Chinese city of Suzhou in an impressive manner.
