Airports don’t lose hub status overnight - but when they do, the effects can reshape an entire region. This video is a spinoff of my “Lost Hub Airports of America” episode, taking a look at five European airports that were once major airline hubs and have since fallen from grace. Some were undone by airline bankruptcies, others by political decisions or failed infrastructure plans, and a few were simply outgrown by the cities they served. In this video, I explore: Berlin Tegel and the collapse of Air Berlin Brussels Airport after the fall of Sabena Milan Malpensa and Alitalia’s failed hub experiment Athens Ellinikon and the disappearance of Olympic Airways Budapest after Malév collapsed overnight Each airport is examined through passenger numbers at their peak, where traffic stands today or at closure, and the key decisions that led to their decline. If you enjoyed Lost Hub Airports of America, this is the European continuation of that story. 👍 Like the video if you enjoy aviation deep dives ✈️ Subscribe for more airline and airport history 💬 Comment below: Which lost hub airport should be covered next? Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next video.
