Synopsis of play: A Jamaican boy faces the struggles of the Windrush era, embarking on a lifelong mission to give a voice to Black youth. He launched The Voice newspaper at the 1982 Notting Hill Carnival and in 1987 brought his iconic musical show, Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame – 5,000 Years of Black History in One Night of Theatre, to audiences across the UK, the United States, and the Caribbean. This production chronicles his journey, from his childhood in Jamaica and arrival in the UK to his groundbreaking creative and community work in London. It highlights his profound impact on the Black community, using the arts and media as tools for education, entertainment, and empowerment. Hosted by the wonderful Angie Greaves, the evening was rounded off with the first Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame Award since Flip's passing.
