Congress leader and former Maharashtra Minister Varsha Gaikwad strongly criticized the privatization of Mumbai airport, alleging that the government has effectively handed it over to the Adani Group. She pointed out that a large portion of the airport premises is now occupied by high-end shops and outlets, with all rental revenue going to the government and Adani instead of being used for passenger facilities. She highlighted the exorbitant food prices, saying that even a simple vada pav has become unaffordable for common travellers. Gaikwad also accused the government of not only transferring the airport to Adani but also giving away vast surrounding land that was the livelihood of poor families, many of whom are still fighting for justice and rehabilitation. Raising serious concerns about rising travel costs and passenger inconvenience at Mumbai airport, she called for greater accountability and transparency in the entire deal.
