This film describes the procedure of applying for asylum if you have arrived in Greece from the land border and are on the Greek mainland. The film was made with the assistance of Greek lawyers from The Greek Council for refugees. https://www.gcr.gr/en/ The procedures for people who arrive by the sea, and are placed in one of the hotspots on the Islands of Chios, Lesvos, Samos, Lesvos, Leros, Kos or Samos are different and are described in our other films. This film describes, in detail, the three-step process for applying for asylum under the 'regular procedure' on the mainland. Step1. Pre-registration Step2. Full-registration Step 3. The Asylum Interview It also describes vulnerability as legislated for in Greek law. People who apply for asylum on the Greek mainland are not subject to the same procedure as on the Islands and will undertake an asylum interview which is described in this film. Please watch to help you to prepare for your asylum interview. Link here: • Asylum in Greece - The Eligibility Intervi... For more information on the procedures in Greece. Please see our website on www.refucomm.org Established in September 2015, RefuComm has been a precursor in identifying and investing in the access to information as a key need of asylum-seeking individuals in Europe. Asylum seekers’ lack of knowledge regarding their own rights and local asylum procedures, alongside perceived and actual language barriers, amplified the negative effects of the fragmented international and national response to the refugees’ inflow, the inconsistent application of international law, the slow asylum procedures and the growing political instability. The spreading of uncontrolled rumours increased the general confusion and exacerbated the exclusion of vulnerable groups, while exposing asylum seekers to greater risks of exploitation, abuse, and violations of fundamental human rights. We make information films, with Greek Lawyers, in nine languages spoken by asylum seekrs in Greece. English, Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, French, Sorani, Kurmanji, Tigrinya and Turkish. The films are shown in the camps and community centres in Greece and used by our legal partners in information sessions. The films are available here on YouTube and on our Website and Facebook page. The English films are used to give volunteers a rudimentary guide to the procedures. Our funding comes from private sources and we are not affiliated to any government organisation. We are all volunteers. RefuComm Helping Humans to Help Themselves. www.refucomm.org
