An Introduction to Herpetology: The Study of Reptiles and Amphibians!

Welcome to the wonderful world of herpetology - the study of reptiles and amphibians! Let's explore how this field of science got its name, what herpetologists study, and why herpetology is so important for conservation. This is the first video in the HerpetologyMe series, which is designed to directly tie North Carolina 4th Grade Essential Science standards to concepts in herpetology. This video addresses the following standard: LS.4.1.1 Understand the effects of environmental changes, adaptations, and behaviors that enable organisms to survive in changing habitats. This series serves as a companion to the HerpetologyMe curriculum, which will be made available as a free to use resource for educators in May 2025. The curriculum includes everything an instructor needs to teach learning standards LS.4.3.1, ESS.4.3.1, and ESS.4.3.3.
