The Court of the Women was named after King Solomon, who built the first Temple on Mount Moriah. It was also called the Middle Court, because it stood between the Court of the Gentiles and the Court of Israel. The court was a large square area, surrounded by colonnades and chambers. In the four corners of the court, there were smaller courts where various offerings and rituals were performed. In front of these courts, there were eleven treasure chests where people could donate money for the Temple. It was here that Jesus observed a poor widow who gave all that she had (Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-2). The Court of the Women was not only a place of worship and donation, but also a place of celebration and joy. During the feast of Sukkot, or Tabernacles, special balconies were built for women to watch the festivities. The court was illuminated by many lamps, and the Levites sang and played music on fifteen steps that led to the Nicanor Gate. The people rejoiced and danced with palm branches and willow twigs, commemorating God’s provision and protection in the wilderness (Leviticus 23:33-43). In this episode we explore this location through the interpretation of the creators of the new Christian RPG, Gate Zero, based on the Bible.
