In 2018, my Dad and I went to Belgium to visit the war grave of my Great Grandad, marking 100 years since his death in the First World War. He was tragically killed on September 28th 1918, just 2 months before the 4-year long horrific war ended, and was laid to rest at Dranoutre Military Cemetery. Whilst in Belgium, we also visited the In Flanders Fields Museum, and the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in the town of Ypres. We then spent a day and a half in Bruges for a change of scene and exploration of a beautiful city. The second half of this film is far less sombre, so please enjoy! This was filmed before I had a YouTube channel and was only meant to be for our family video archive, so please excuse the low quality (shot on an iPhone X) and the lack of creative flare! Some 4 years later, war has shockingly returned to Europe, something I honestly never thought I’d see in my lifetime. So it seemed right that now share this footage as a reminder of the enduring impact of war. I dedicate this film to my Great Grandad JAMES SIDNEY HALL and to all those lost in service.
