Officially opened in 1967 by the Japanese Ambassador to the United States, the Japanese Garden has become one of Birmingham Botanical Gardens' most beloved garden spaces. While the Gardens remains closed for the safety of the community during this unprecedented time, we are happy to share some of our favorite springtime scenes from this special place—including the garden's famed cherry blossoms in bloom along the Kayser Cherry Walk. About Birmingham Botanical Gardens: Since 1962, Birmingham Botanical Gardens has welcomed visitors from across the region and around the world to explore the Gardens' botanical treasures; enjoy nature; and learn about plants, gardening, and the environment. The Gardens' 67.5 acres contain more than 12,000 plants showcased in 28 gardens inspired by culture, nature, and collections. A facility of the Birmingham Park and Recreation Board, the Gardens is the result of a successful public/private partnership between the City of Birmingham and the nonprofit Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a mission-driven membership organization that seeks to protect, nurture, and share the wonders of the Gardens.
