Hello All, Plate 3 - The Procession of Sokar - the plate is composed of 3 sections: 1. The process of priests carrying the barque of Sokar to his shrine, 2. The shrine of Sokar with offering, and 3. The worship and offering of oils to Sokar sitting on his throne. On the third section, Sokar is offering followed by the ṯhere principle gods of creations (Atum, Shu, Tefnut) and the god Ptah who is associated with Sokar. Welcome to the start of my Book of the Dead creation journey. Books of the dead began to appear in the late middle kingdom and became prominent the new kingdom of ancient Egypt, and until the end of the Egyptian civilization. The BD was an instructional document, which assisted the deceased in their journey of the afterlife. The books varied in size and on mediums (coffins, shrouds, and tomb walls). The BD cost 6 months wage for an Egyptian official and became a necessity for all ancient Egyptians. I am bringing back the BD to life, by creating by own version with real Egyptian papyrus paper. The longest intact scroll discovered measured 128 feet x 1 foot and 6 1/2 inches (39 meters x 0.46 meters) from the late period during the 22nd Dynasty. It belonged to the princess Nesitabnedtasheru, and her book contained more Chapters, Hymns, Litanies, Adorations, and " Homages " to the gods than any other papyrus known. I intend to to make my papyrus 164 feet x 2 feet and 1 inches (50 meters x 0.64 meters) and it will contain several Chapters of the Theban Recension of the Book of the Dead, some duplicates bearing different titles, and a long series of Hymns, Litanies, etc., to Ra, Ra-Harmakhis, Osiris, Thoth, and other gods.
