Star of the 2023 SHOWBUSflyby linking Brunel University to RAF High Wycombe was the 1953 ex Eastern National Bristol KSW 4216 (WNO481) deroofed in 1966 for seafront services. The bus passed to Valliant-Silverline in Uxbridge who hired it to Sir Paul McCartney's group Wings for their European tour in 1972. Valliant's brought it to Brunel in January 1973 with one of their latest coaches at what - minus the name - was the first SHOWBUS. The bus was later rescued from the Mediterranean coast and beautifully restores just in time for the SHOWBUSflyby where it was displayed in roughly the same spot fifty years earlier. WNO481 journeyed from East Anglia to High Wycombe the day before on a lowloader and Toby Francis of Arriva, a good friend to SHOWBUS, kindly arranged for it to be garaged overnight at their Wycombe depot (which was permanently closed thirteen months later). Toby was there to greet the bus and got the perhaps unenviable task of reversing it into the depot over one of the pits! He used more used to occasionally driving a modern automatic!
