In Week 3 of our Respectable Sins sermon series (based on Jerry Bridges’ book), we confront one of the most destructive and normalized sins both inside and outside the church: sexual immorality. From 1 Corinthians 6:9–20, we see that sexual sin is not a small or private issue—it is a serious offense against God, our own bodies, and the witness of the church. The Apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian church (and us) that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, but also offers profound hope in the gospel: “And such were some of you.” Through Christ, sinners are washed, sanctified, and justified. This sermon carefully defines sexual immorality biblically, examines why it is uniquely dangerous, and exposes how even “respectable” Christians can tolerate what God clearly condemns. We trace sexual sin throughout Scripture, from Genesis to the New Testament, and hear Jesus’ own warning that sin begins in the heart—not just in actions. Yet this message is not about shame—it is about freedom. The solution is not behavior modification alone, but a renewed vision of Christ. Scripture calls us not merely to turn away from sin, but to turn to God from idols. As we look to Christ, we learn what it truly means to flee sexual immorality and glorify God with our bodies. This sermon closes with a powerful reminder from Charles Spurgeon’s conversion story: salvation and victory over sin come from one simple command—Look to Jesus.
