The Fuji Five Lake (Fujigoko) area is a beautiful and popular get-away for both locals and vistors from overseas. Accessible from Tokyo by bus and rail and it is about 2 hours away. The magnificent Mount Fuji (Fujisan) is the main 'attraction', but there are lots of things to do - camping, hiking, forest walking trials, great food and even skiing in winter. The most popular area is Kawaguchi (Lake Kawaguchi), but there are 5 lakes that surround Mt Fuji. I have first been to Kawaguchi in 2015 (day trip) and fell in love with the town. I revisited Kawaguchi in 2091 on a 3 day stay; but to properly enjoy and explore the area, I would like to suggest 7 - 10 days free and easy trip (preferably with a rented vehicle). Renting a vehicle in Japan is not expensive, and if you have 4 people in a group, it will be perfect. You can also consider enting a vehicle in Kawaguchi or rent a bicycle to move around.
