Eighth round of 2004 World Rally Championship. After rally Turkey it was time for a classic round in the championship. Rally Argentina has hosted a round of World Rally Championship since 1980 and its run even today. Its smooth and flowing stages and picturesque backdrops are just one of the reasons why fans and crews like this rally so much. Sebastien Loeb was the man to beat after his string of podium finishes in last few events. He had proven that he can win anywhere and everybody knew his preferred surface (tarmac) was still to come. So if somebody was to catch him they would have to start now. However that didn't really happen since his main rivals Markko Märtin, Petter Solberg and Marcus Grönholm all retired. Only person who could beat Sebastien Loeb in this rally was his team mate, veteran 42 year old Carlos Sainz who became the most successful rally driver of all time after this rally win (he was later passed by Marcus Grönholm, Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier). Big respect to Citroen team boss Guy Frequelin who didn't use team orders to take away Sainz's victory. After the two Citroens finished Francois Duval who was the only works Ford to finish in three events in a row. His consistency for his young age was very impressive and Malcom Wilson clearly had made right decision signing him in 2002. Another rising star Mikko Hirvonen finished fourth taking important points to manufacturer's championship for Subaru. Peugeot's Harri Rovanperä's rally was full of mechanical issues with familiar problems. Power steering and gearbox acting up as in almost ever single rally this season, he managed to finish fifth. Privateer team Bozian Racing showed us yet again what they can do with small budget and old cars. Local star Luiz Companc Perez took their 206 to impressive sixth place ahead of works Mitsubishi of Gilles Panizzi who finished seventh. Another local driver Gabriel Pozzo took the last point by finishing eighth on his Group N Subaru Impreza. Also worth mentioning is Kristian Sohlberg's performance on this rally. He drove the other works Mitsubishi and would have finished fourth without a gearbox failure. I do not own any content used in this video.
