Pull out to show clashes between riot police and protesters with rubbish bins burning STORYLINE Two policemen have pleaded innocent to murder charges for the fatal shooting of a teenager that provoked riots across Greece and prompted a resurgence in far-left and anarchist bombing and shooting attacks. Hundreds of police provided security for the trial, which reopened on Friday in the small provincial town of Amfissa, after a two-day postponement to let a key defence lawyer attend. The main defendant, 39-year-old Epaminondas Korkoneas, has been charged with murder for shooting in Athens on December 6, 2008, which followed an altercation with youths who taunted the two officers and threw plastic bottles at their patrol car. Korkoneas claims 15-year-old schoolboy Alexandros Grigoropoulos died when he fired a warning shot in the air that ricocheted. The second defendant, Vassilis Saraliotis, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charge of complicity to murder. The teenager''s death sparked riots that spread throughout Greece. Rioting in Athens again last year, on the anniversary of the shooting, led to more than 130 arrests. The dead teenager''s mother, Gina Tsalikian, accused Korkoneas of intentionally shooting her son and walking off. Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse on Friday, Tsalikian said she hoped that "justice will be served so that no other mother finds herself in the position I am in today." Authorities picked Amfissa, 120 miles (200 kilometres) west of Athens, for security reasons, fearing violence by anarchists who were prominent in the 2008 riots.
