PNSE (Persistent Non-Symbolic Experience) is often equated with enlightenment, awakening, or “deep” states of consciousness. But what if it isn’t about depth at all? In this video, I reinterpret PNSE not as a mystical attainment or altered state, but as a *neural configuration* — specifically, a condition in which recursive self-referential processing in the Default Mode Network (DMN) no longer habitually moves into the foreground of cognition. Topics covered: The minimal structural definition of PNSE Why “depth” is not essential The difference between temporary states and lasting configurations Reinterpreting Location and Layer models Non-reactivity as the absence of reactive loop generation Why “losing it” or “returning to ego” may be recursive illusions This is not a rejection of enlightenment language, but a reframing. Instead of focusing on phenomenological intensity, we look at the *foregrounding of recursive self-processing* as the core structural variable. PNSE may not be a special state to maintain — but a configuration in which self-referential recursion is no longer the default baseline.
