X Sues Indian Government Over “Unlawful” Censorship Rules

Twitter X Sued: Elon Musk’s social media platform X has sued the Indian government, challenging what it calls an "unlawful" and "parallel" censorship system under Section 79(3)(b) of the IT Act. The lawsuit, filed in the Karnataka High Court, alleges that multiple government agencies are issuing content takedown orders without following legal safeguards outlined in Section 69A. X has also accused the government of creating a "Censorship Portal" called Sahyog, which allows central and state authorities to block content without oversight. The Indian government has denied taking action against X for refusing to comply but has not commented on the allegations.
