In this episode we set out to explore our little area of southwest Texas. We begin by visiting the historic Fort Davis. Conveniently located right in the town of Fort Davis, this former military instillation was truly home to the buffalo soldiers of the plains, protecting settlers, mail and cargo from marauding natives. Touring the fort is a fascinating step back in history that played such a crucial role in the development of our country and of the state (and nation) of Texas. We top off our visit to Fort Davis with a stop at Herbert's Caboose Ice Cream Shop for some delicious Bluebell ice cream. This adorable ice cream shop is located in a retired and remodeled Burlington Northern railroad caboose, and is definitely the most unique ice cream shop we have seen. Next we travel the short distance to Marfa, Texas and have lunch at Marfa Burrito. This somewhat notorious little restaurant is a must-do if you're ever in the Marfa area. Oh, and don't forget to write your name on the wall! Finally we stop off at the roadside rest where you can stay the night in your RV and view the mysterious Marfa lights. Dating back to the 1880s, the source of these lights is still unknown. They don't appear every night, but when they do, viewers report orbs of yellow, red, blue and green dancing, spinning and splitting up in the night sky.
