Tanjay City is well known for its cultural celebration of the "Sinulog de Tanjay Festival". It originated way back in the year 1814 ancestry and was revived in 1980 as highlight of its annual fiesta celebration. Due to the popularity of its famous native delicacy called "bod-bod" which resulted to the creation of another well known traditional celebration as the Tanjay Bod-Bod Festival. Tanjay CIty is also noted to have produced the highest number of working professionals over the years who are currently residing in the Philippines and others are in different countries abroad. The origin of the name TANJAY is being told as named after a Chinese trader and from a tall tree known as "Tan Hai". In 1580, Tanjay was designated as the first Catholic parish of Negros Oriental still being a town at that time.
