Once I cleaned it off I could see a date on it and it finally locked us in to the era of this old cabin site. I started out my day exploring this old NH farmland that goes back to the 1700's. I had seen a photo that showed this as all open field back in the 1940's so I wanted to take a look at what 70 to 80 years of forest grow back looked like. I detected up to the cellar hole and back with not much to find . I then made my way over to where there was a hunting cabin in the mid 1900s and have dug relics before. Well this time in one hole I pulled a bunch of old bottle and a license plate from 1938. And it was from the state of Maine ! That is great information because we really did not know much about the cabin guy before hand even after detecting here for so long. Metal detecting old places like this there is so much history in the ground from the last 300 years you never know what you are going to find.
