On January 5, 2025, New York became the first state in the United States to implement its controversial congestion pricing plan starting with a $9 toll (with E-ZPass) to enter the central business district of Manhattan once per day (passenger car rate) anywhere south of 61 St, excluding the FDR Drive, West Side Highway (NY 9A) & Battery Park Underpass. This toll is charged once per calendar day. It costs $9 during peak hours: Weekdays: 5 AM-9 PM or Weekends 9 AM-9 PM. All other hours, the congestion zone is charged the overnight 75% "discount" rate of $2.25.
