7,000 languages are spoken or signed today, but nearly 3,000 languages could disappear in a generation - erasing centuries of cultural, historical, and ecological knowledge. Language activist, Daniel shows how people around the world are finding new ways to keep their languages and cultures alive, with an emphasis on South Asia, one of the world's most linguistically dense regions. Daniel Bögre Udell is the co-founder and executive director of Wikitongues, which supports language revitalization around the world. He has a BFA in design and technology and a master's degree in historical studies from the New School University in New York City. He speaks English, Spanish, Catalan, and Portuguese. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
