SCIENCE BEHIND THE CAR Two men enter the Arctic Testing Room, (a kind of giant refrigerated garage kept at subzero temperatures). Inside is a Morris Minor covered in ice and snow. The men get inside and start the engine. They drive the car forward then get out and clear the snow off the bonnet. MS as they check the insides of the engine, all in perfect working order. They drive off. Back inside the garage they return to an engine covered only by a sheet under the snow. They easily start the motor. The Morris Minor is now locked into a a dust chamber to reproduce the worst conditions of a tropical dust storm. View inside the chamber as the dust is blown in. Men in white coats wearing masks re-open the chamber and the car drives out covered in dust. They examine the interior of the car. Another Morris Minor with its doors removed is brake tested. Sensitive temperature testing devices are fixed to the car wheels. The car is shown being driven at speed with men using monitoring equipment riding inside. CU the brake pedal. CU a temperature gauge. WS the car with doors removed on a test track. CU the engine. MS monitoring equipment inside the boot and next to the passenger seat. CU a decibel meter. The technicians set up mirrors and technical equipment to monitor a speed test. WS the car speeds down various test roads: cobbles, speed bumps, off road and rough terrain.
