During the annual function of an orphanage, he is captivated by wit and intelligence of a young inmate named Iqbal. Moved by his potential, Nawab Sahib brings Iqbal home as his protégé, determined to help him achieve his dream of studying. Over the years, Iqbal wholeheartedly pursues his ambitions and eventually qualifies as a doctor. The now elderly Nawab Sahib his Begum grow to love Iqbal deeply for his honesty and upright character. To Suraiya, the Nawab's only daughter, Iqbal embodies everything she considers worth loving and living for. Suddenly, a calamity strikes as the Nawab Sahib's village is ravaged by a deadly plague. Staying to his ideals, Iqbal convinces the Nawab Sahib to let him serve the plague-str victims. In the disease-ridden village, Iqbal meets Hamida, the daughter of the Naw's representative, and it is love at first sight. Fate, in the form of Dilawar and a knife, brings Hamida under the care of the Nawab. To Ibal, it feels as though the entire world has come to honor him. However, he soon discovers that Suraiya has cherished his image since childhood. With Hamida in his heart and Suraiya on his conscience, Iqbal finds himself in an agonizing conflict. When the joyous Suraiya learns of the unfolding drama within her own home, her entire world collapses. Understanding the turmoil in Iqbal's mind, Suraiya selflessly resolves to sacrifice her happiness. Her ultimate act of renunciation elevates her love and its essence to a divine and immortal level.
