Torbay Music Foundation is here to help young people pursue their passion | The Shorely

Torbay Music Foundation is aiming to remove the financial barriers for young people that want to learn or improve an instrument and music education. This newly formed charity sees the benefits music has for a young person's development. They believe every child has the right to an opportunity to pursue their music education for families that need it the most. They want to remove the financial barriers by helping to cover the cost of lessons, instruments, or even in some cases transport. We went to Torbay Music Foundation's launch at Torre Abbey's Spanish Barn to talk to Annabelle Knowles, one the charity trustees. "Music education can be expensive, particularly if you want to you know to take it to an advanced level. We want to take that financial barrier away for those families. We're all aware of the huge benefits that music has for young people for their development for their growth for their well-being for their health, as well as the academic benefits. The Torbay Music Foundation is a brand-new charity whose role is to advance music education opportunities for young people in Torbay; maybe through providing money for instrumental tuition or instruments or exams or music courses or putting on specific projects that meet needs the needs of young people in Torbay. Every child should be able to have the instrumental lessons that they wanted, and they would be able to get to every club that they wanted to get to. We're aware that in time is a challenge for the parent so we'd like to put on transport options. We want the local community to get behind this foundation and support it. If people have got fundraising ideas or want to put some energy into fundraising for the foundation, it's such a great cause that will benefit all our young people. We need the profile of the foundation raised so that everybody knows that it's there obviously the foundation will be able to bid for grants and awards for specific projects, but you know we're gonna need that money coming in trickling or flowing or cascading into the bank account from as many different areas as we can get it from." - Annabella Knowles, Torbay Music Foundation Trustee.
