The Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail in Mpumalanga, South Africa is a 37km scenic, self drive route between Barberton and Swaziland that takes you more than 3 billion years into the past. Interpretation panels and landscaped laybys at significant geological and view sites explain the geology and rock formations on which the area's World Heritage Site nomination rests. The geotrail reveals the significance of the Barberton Greenstone Belt in every-day language and concepts and shows how scientists think Earth may have looked, bringing the Archaean eon to life and explaining how the landscape became what it is today. The geological interpretations are supplemented by richly illustrated view panels showcasing the landscape, biodiversity and cultural significance of the area.
