Learning to Listen: Conversations for Change Spring 2025 Episode 3 -- Learning to Listen to Transgender Youth and their Families April 30, 2025 In this webinar, Dr. Scott Leibowitz — child & adolescent psychiatrist and an international specialist in the care of transgender and gender-diverse youth — speaks with Brazelton Touchpoints Center Executive Director Dr. Joshua Sparrow about what Scott has learned from families and himself throughout his career, and how those lessons can apply to each of us and our practice. Scott Leibowitz, MD, is a child & adolescent psychiatrist, author, speaker, educator, and consultant who is internationally known for specializing in the care of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth and adolescents. He has been featured in the New York Times magazine for his work as the co-lead of the Adolescent chapter for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standard of Care 8th edition, has been a co-investigator in NIMH-funded research, has authored over 30 academic publications, and has edited two clinical guides on the subject. Dr. Leibowitz brings a wealth of clinical experience serving TGD youth & their families and has developed a reputation for his balanced approach to the ethical debates on adolescent decision-making. From 2008-2024, he served in three pediatric multidisciplinary gender clinics in American Children’s Hospitals. He spent six years at Boston Children’s Hospital’s Gender Management Service, the country’s first program in an academic medical center. Most recently (2016-2024), he spent eight years as Medical Director of Behavioral Health for the THRIVE Gender Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital which has become the largest embedded therapy and assessment model of any pediatric gender clinic in the United States.
