DIY Macrame Tutorial: June Series - Working with Colour! Ep. 6 - Silk Ribbons Vertical Half Hitches!

DIY Macrame Tutorial: June Series - Working with Colour! Ep. 6 - Incorporating Silk Ribbons Using Vertical Half Hitch and Double Half Hitch Knots! Please see below for materials and written instructions. Material: 6mm 3 Ply Rope (Colour: Natural) Recycled Sari Silk Ribbon (Colours: Muted Teal and Mandarin) Shop Fiber Art Supples (string, rope, roving and more) here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/LotsofKn... Hey guys! For the month of June I will be incorporating colour into each of my tutorials. Today I am going to show you a couple of ways you can incorporate colourful ribbons into your work. I love using this method for macraweaves. Let’s get started. Set up - Cut 5 pieces of 6mm rope, each piece is 1.5 m in length. Fold each piece in half and attach to your dowel using Lark’s Head knots. Cut another piece of 6mm rope that is 70 cm long to use as your filler cord and tie 10 double half hitch knots (DHHKs) across the bottom of your work. If you need help with this section please see below for a link to another tutorial in this series that will show you how to tie the row of DHHKs and how to tuck in the ends of the filler cord: Episode 4 - Another Square Knot Pattern:    • DIY Macrame Tutorial: June Series - W...   Cut 2 pieces of muted teal silk ribbon, one piece is 2 ft or 60cm long and the other is 2.5 ft long. Cut 2 pieces of mandarin silk ribbon, both pieces are 2.5 ft long. To start, we will tie a row of vertical half hitch knots across the bottom of our work with the 2 foot piece of silk ribbon. Bring the ribbon behind the two filler cords on the LHS of your work, in front of your work and underneath the end. Continue that process bringing the ribbon behind two filler cords and then in front of two filler cords. You should tie 5 half hitches total. This isn’t a secure knot on its own but it can be used to add colour and detail in between other knots. Using a piece of mandarin ribbon, tie 4 VDHHs starting on the LHS of your work. Bring the ribbon behind two filler cords, in front of the same two filler cords above the end, around the back and front and through the loop. If you want to tie an additional VDHH so that the ribbon travels all the way to the right feel free to do so. Grab your final piece of muted teal silk ribbon and tie 5 VDHHs across your work. Feel free to leave the ends hanging or tuck them into the back of your work as shown here. Using a tapestry needle thread the ends into the back of the knots. I’m going to add one more row of VDHHs at the top of my work then I will go back and tuck in the ends. Tie 5 VDHHs at the top of your work. Once you’ve finished tucking in the ends here is what your work should look like. Sometimes I like to fill in this section with VDHHs and sometimes I like to leave it bare - it is up to you! Thanks for watching!
