The coal mining antagonist My Bloody Valentine (1981) and its remake (2009) have two very different psychological profiles – in this video I'm digging in to the mind of each killer. ROMANCE IS DEAD. My Bloody Valentine is the 1981 cult holiday slasher about a small town cursed by the re-emergence of a killer desiring revenge on Valentine's Day. It features immaculate wordplay around the February 14th holiday, a tense love triangle and an unforgettable to descent into the mines and into madness. But equally, if not more interesting, is the 2009 remake, My Bloody Valentine 3D, which switches up the killer, making "The Miner" more of a mascot – reinvented for a new generation. So instead of picking just one version of the character to focus on, I've decided to analyze both, to break down the greater story of Axel Palmer, Tom Hanniger and Sarah Mercer – and what it says about life, love and the labors of each.
