Speaker: Adam Czerniak (Warsaw School of Economics) Wednesday 22 May 2024 Housing inequality can be measured using various indicators that show many aspects of the problem: housing affordability issues, uneven housing stock and wealth distribution, and inequality in available living space. In this ongoing research project, together with colleagues from the Warsaw School of Economics, microdata from the Household Finance and Consumer Survey (HFCS) and the Social, Income, and Living Conditions Survey (EU-SILC) is combined with house price statistics, data on interest rates, and macroprudential policies, to examine how European countries differ in various aspects of housing inequality. Drawing on these indicators, this research tries to find a connection between housing inequality patterns and housing regimes (aka varieties of residential capitalism) in Europe. In this talk, Adam Czerniak will share the initial outcomes of these investigations and contemplate potential future directions for the research project.
