Stavbe, vključno z dvonadstropno hišo ob zgradbi, in druge enonadstropne stavbe so bile dograjene leta 1821. The Savudrija lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Croatia, located near the village of the same name at the northern end of the Istrian peninsula, near the Slovenian border at the southern end of the Gulf of Trieste. It is also known as Cape Savudrija Lighthouse, cape or point, in Italian it is called Punta Salvore, before World War II the lighthouse was commonly known as Punta Salvore Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1818 and is the oldest working lighthouse in the Adriatic Sea. Although the Italian lighthouse on Barletta, known as Faro Napoleon, is believed to have been built in 1807, it was later renovated and replaced by a harbor light in 1959. At first, the Savudri lighthouse was coal-fired, the first lighthouse to be planned and operated in this way. Although the success was publicized, ongoing problems meant it was quickly replaced with a fuel-powered system. but local stone was used in the construction of the 19-meter tall gray lighthouse. Buildings, including a two-story house next to the building, and other single-story buildings were added in 1821. The height of the tower was increased by 10 m in the late 19th century to its current height of 29 m. The lighthouse is operated by the state company Plovput. Since 2000, rooms in the lighthouse have also been available for rent as holiday accommodation. Although the light is still automated, lighthouse keepers help protect and maintain the operation of the lighthouse. The current keeper as of 2021 is Mario Milin Ungar, continuing the line of service that has been in the Ungar family for five generations. At a height of 29 m above sea level, the light has a range of 30 nautical miles and consists of three flashes of white light that illuminate every fifteen seconds. A legend There is a romantic story connected with the lighthouse, in which Count Metternich is said to have had it built for a beautiful and attractive Croatian lady of high birth whom he met and fell in love with at first sight at a ball in Vienna. The Austrian count and his mistress were not destined to live there, as the mistress fell ill and then died the same day it was completed, and the count never set foot in the lighthouse again.
