🌬️ North-East Monsoon, also known as the Retreating Monsoon, occurs in India between October and December. Unlike the South-West Monsoon which brings rain to most of the country, the North-East Monsoon primarily brings rainfall to the southeastern coast, especially Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Sri Lanka. This monsoon is caused by high-pressure systems over the Indian subcontinent pushing dry continental winds toward the Bay of Bengal. These winds pick up moisture from the sea and return as rain over southeastern India. 📌 Why is it Important? Tamil Nadu receives ~50% of its annual rainfall from this monsoon. Supports Rabi crops, reservoir refill, and winter irrigation. Often linked to cyclonic activity (Bay of Bengal cyclones). It’s a key concept in UPSC GS1 (Indian Geography) and State PCS Geography. --- 🧠 Quick Facts for Exams: Season: October–December Wind direction: Land to Sea (NE) Major states: Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala (south), Odisha (partially) Known for: Cyclones, post-monsoon rainfall UPSC Angle: Climatology, Indian Physical Geography, Agriculture #NorthEastMonsoon #UPSCGeography #MonsoonInIndia #RetreatingMonsoon #TamilNaduRainfall #IndiaClimate #GS1Geography #StatePCS #GeographyExplained #IndianMonsoon #RabiCrops #ClimateChangeIndia #AgricultureIndia #MPSC #BPSC #UPPSC #SSC #CAPFExam #CivilServicesExam #GeographyShorts #UPSC2025 #NorthEastMonsoon #RetreatingMonsoon #UPSC2025 #GeographyUPSC #IndianMonsoon #TamilNaduRainfall #StatePCS #ClimateChangeIndia #BayOfBengal #RabiCrops #IndianClimate #MonsoonExplained #Prelims2025 #CycloneSeason #GeographyFacts #MPPSC #MPSC #UPPSC #BPSC #SSC #CAPF #IndianGeography #WinterMonsoon #UPSCShorts
