VN24 - 15-01-2024 (D/M/Y) - Werne / Germany - On Nordlippestraße in Werne (Unna district), green maintenance and tree pruning work was being carried out. For this purpose, a construction site with one-way traffic routing was set up and traffic was guided past the construction site in alternating lanes with a mobile traffic light system. At around 12 noon, a 45-year-old Slovakian truck driver noticed too late that the Semitrailer of a 57-year-old Dutchman had presumably come to a stop at this traffic light when the light was red and that the truck of a 52-year-old driver driving directly in front of him also obviously had to stop and had braked sharply to do so. The 45-year-old drove with great force into the vehicle in front of him and pushed it past the stationary truck. The truck steered to the right, presumably due to oncoming vehicles, and crashed into the side of the truck in front. Two people in the cab of the Slovakian driver were seriously injured. The front passenger was trapped and had to be freed by the fire department. Both occupants were taken to hospital by emergency services. The two drivers of the two trucks in front were also taken to hospital for medical checks, but were able to leave after being examined. A police accident investigation team recorded evidence of the accident throughout the day and attempted to reconstruct the course of events. In the afternoon, the police called the Kollmer recovery team and they arrived with several vehicles. The vehicle involved in the accident was towed away.
