🐧🐧🐧 What a cracker of a tune. A literal march of the penguins! (well, of one penguin anyway) Learnt by yours truly today in honour of World Penguin Day. Written and performed (presumably by Hugh Cheap) in 2002 for a solitary penguin in Edinburgh Zoo, to mark the centenary of a 1902 performance by another solo piper to another solo penguin at the zoo as part of the Scottish Antarctic Expedition (not clear whether it was their embarkation or return). I just love the mental image of a fully-kilted piper playing very earnestly to a neatly tuxed little penguin who's looking back just thinking - "What the fuck are YOU doing?" I found the name of the tune on The Session courtesy of a speculative search of the term "Penguin," but the transcription there wasn't great, so I learnt this from the only other mention of the tune I could find online, an accordion recording (try saying that quickly) by Freeland Barbour on his album An Linne Dhubh. I think it should definitely be more widespread.
