We are getting closer to our target of following the Limpopo river from the East corner to the West northern corners of the country, including two tri-nation border points. In the East it's at Crookes; Corner in the Kruger (SA, Mozambique & Zimbabwe) while in the West it's at Mapungubwe (SA, Zimbabwe & Botswana) Further west is the point where the Limpopo comes from the South and turns to an Eastern direction flow at Ratho. This was the main purpose of the tour to visit these point on the river and the area in between as it's such a special part of the country with a rich history of trade and settlements going back many centuries ago. Mapungubwe was a significant ancient African kingdom in what is now South Africa, flourishing around the 11th to 14th centuries. Located in the Limpopo Province, it's considered a precursor to Great Zimbabwe and a crucial Iron Age site. The area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its rich archaeological history and diverse geology. This tour came onto our wish list a year ago when visiting the northern part of the Kruger and Crookes' corner. Having been to the west side at Ratho Bushcamps as well. we decided to do an East-to-West Northern Limpopo border tour and now this is it. We didn't expect all the rain this year and were surprised to see the full rivers in the north, going all the way back to the western side. We don't often see the Limpopo river in flood or at least full and the result of all the rain in these parts of the country. The veld is dense, everything is green and healthy. Enjoy and follow the episodes as we share this adventure with you.
