Our Tour Round the Grounds of the 1811 Restored Old Rectory and Walled Garden Stewartstown Co Tyrone

**We were back over near Cookstown last week for a wee mini break. We stayed in the amazing 1811 Old Rectory B&B. What a great choice. Over the decades this rectory was home to 13 local parish rectors and their families! During our stay we were mightily entertained by, laid back, English couple, Rob and Nicola and their 7 cats, donkey and shetland pony.- We fitted right in. What fun! This historic home and our knowledgeable hosts certainly made up for the rotten, wet, grey weather! Rab and Nicola have spent a lot of time, money and years restoring this old property. It has been a labour of love. The roof has been replaced along with the windows and doors. Chimneys have been rebuilt and hallways and rooms have been replastered and restored in keeping with the Georgian period. Outside everything has been replastered and dashed. What a job! If this was not enough Rob and Nicola have tastefully placed hundreds of antiques collected from their world travels everywhere inside. The very friendly cats were a pleasure. Here we are taking the air by having a potter round the extensive grounds. There is really so much to see! Rob and his friend Seamus have transformed a very run down, bramble overgrown, neglected few acres into a superb characterful extended garden. The remains of the walled garden have been painstakingly rebuilt with potting shed, stone plots, orchard, arches, fountain, bell tower, other hidden alcoves and antique curios carefully added in. What a mammoth task! Even on a wet miserable day it looked wonderful. What must it look like in it's summer splendour? What a treat being there even for a few days and being allowed to film it all. ****It came as no surprise at all to us that Rab and Nicola and their marvellous refurbished rectory had featured in a number programmes in the, Kate Humble, A Country Life for Half the Price TV Series.****
