Religious Texts of India - Guru Granth Sahib - Some Unknown Facts | Culture Express Guru Granth Sahib, also known as Adi Sri Granth Sahib Ji is the holy book for the Sikhs, who treat it as their living Guru. It begins with Ek onkar satnam kartapurakh, Nirmoh nirvair akaal murat, Ajuni sabham, Gur-parshad which is known as the Mool Mantra or Mul Mantra i.e. basic statement of creed of Sikhism. It roughly means one universal creator god, the name is truth,creative being personified, no fear no hatred, image of the undying, beyond birth, self existent by Guru's grace. It was believed to have been uttered by Guru Nanak, the first Guru of the Sikhs when he attained enlightenment. The text in the Guru Granth Sahib is 1430 pages long and are the actual words spoken by the founders of Sikh religion, the Ten Gurus of Sikhism. One unique aspect about the Guru Granth Sahib is the fact that it is considered a living Guru. When a copy is worn out and needs to be discarded, it is cremated with all funerary rites.
