Mamaw’s Cornmeal Gravy 🥣 Ingredients: • 3 heaping tbsp vegetable shortening (plus more if needed) • 3 heaping tbsp self-rising flour • 3 heaping tbsp self-rising cornmeal • 1 (12 fl oz) can evaporated milk • 24 fl oz water (fill the milk can twice) • Salt & pepper to taste Instructions: 1. Melt the vegetable shortening in a large skillet over medium heat. 2. In your serving bowl, mix the evaporated milk with 2 cans of water. Set aside. 3. Stir the flour and cornmeal into the melted shortening. Mix constantly as it cooks. 4. If it feels too dry, add a little more shortening. You want a smooth, cookable texture — cornmeal is the star here! 5. Season with salt and pepper. 6. Cook and stir until it reaches your desired color — golden or light, your choice. 7. Slowly pour in the milk mixture, stirring nonstop. 8. Keep stirring — it will be lumpy at first, but patience is key. 9. When it starts to bubble, remove from heat. The longer it cooks after bubbling, the thicker it gets. 10.
