Growing pains are characterized by paroxysmal pain that affects both limbs and typically occurs in the evening or during the night. Gentle massage or analgesics usually provide pain relief within fifteen minutes. Prompt pain relief is usually obtained with gentle massage or analgesics. The pain should have completely resolved by the morning and the child should be utterly fine, with the possible exception of fatigue due to interrupted sleep.
