Festive season’s greetings and 2020 Highlights from AMAFHH Federation Team. AMAFHH Federation Team wish you a very safe, happy and prosperous festive season that carries onto the New Year. Our team would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, partners and volunteers for their commitment and overwhelming support throughout the year. The year 2020 has been a challenging year for AMAFHH Federation and for the communities we serve. The adversities of this year have necessitated adaptation. Fortunately, we have been able to find new ways to engage with our community, to maintain our strong relationships with key stakeholders and even to build a few new ones along the way. Bushfires, smoke haze, the pandemic, lockdowns, distancing precautions were new and unexpected experiences for us all. They prevented us from undertaking many of our usual annual events, such as our annual Iftar, our international women’s day celebration and the multicultural festival that we had inaugurated in 2018. These events are a part of what gives structure to our year and are our way of bringing our stakeholders and community members together. They are important to us and not being able to hold them was a great loss to the community. However, though our gatherings and events could not be fully replaced, we held some new types of events that were also very beneficial. We made an International Women’s Day video. We conducted ongoing broadcasts via social media that were both interactive and community-centred, with many families and children participating throughout. We learned new skills and we taught many of these skills to our volunteers and community members; better preparing them for life in what may become the ‘new normal’. We constructed an audio-visual studio, equipped for both video production and broadcasting, which has become a place of learning for many young people as well as enhancing our organisation’s capabilities. The often-unseen work of AMAFHH Federation in supporting community members also involved new challenges. Lockdowns, in particular, were tough on families and often caused existing problems such as family violence to escalate. Moreover, many of our community members are international students who found themselves without any means of support, so providing assistance to them, including housing, was a major challenge. At times there were more people in need than we had resources to help. We did our best with what we had and now we acknowledge a need to build further capability and resources to ensure we are able to do more of this work in the future. We end the year with a sense of accomplishment, having endured unprecedented circumstances and still managed to achieve a great deal. We end the year with new skills, new infrastructure and capabilities as an organisation and a renewed drive to keep improving the way we serve our community. Importantly, we also end the year with a new goal in mind: the future construction of a unique school to serve the educational needs of our future generations. Many thanks to your all for your ongoing support. We ask that you remember us in your prayers and continue to work with us in the coming year.
