Fracture is the breaking or cracking of a bone. Several types of fractures exist including, Complete fracture- the bone is broken into two. Incomplete fracture-The bone is not completely broken into two. Greenstick-a cracks or breaks on one side of the bone shaft (Common in children). Comminuted fracture- The bone is broken into three or more fragments Oblique fracture-The fracture produces a slanting appearance across the bone Spiral fracture-the fracture winds across the bone Transverse fracture-bone breaks at a 90-degree angle to the bone shaft. Signs and symptoms of a bone fracture include; decreased mobility, swelling around the region, pain and inflammation, the extremity may appear abnormal, oedema, erythema, and neurovascular impairment. The complication of bone fracture includes; osteomyelitis, compartment syndrome, or fat embolism. Nursing management entails the assessment of the 6 P's Pain Pallor Paresthesia Paralysis Poikilothermia Pulselessness Immobilization of the impacted region, arresting bleeding, if any, cast and traction care, and monitoring for complications. #fractures #infantfractures #pediatricfractures
