With age, the incidence of challenges with mobility and cognitive function become more common, making it difficult to carry out activities that enable older adults to remain active and productive members of their communities. This panel will explore what actions by the public and private sectors are needed to provide housing options that enable older adults to successfully age in in their communities. Dr. Christopher Herbert is Managing Director of Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies and a Lecturer in the Department of Urban Planning and Design. Robin Lipson is the Deputy Secretary of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In her role she helps the agency achieve its mission to promote the independence, empowerment and well-being of older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers. Jennifer Molinsky is a Senior Research Associate at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University and a Lecturer in Urban Planning and Design. Jennifer manages the Center’s research on housing for older adults. Amy Schectman is the President and CEO of 2Life Communities and has worked in the public and nonprofit sectors to advance affordable housing and social justice.
